hard fought victory, with thanks to a magnificent ton from Campbell

It was a wet and windy day at Grappenhall on Saturday with both eager to get a game in with cancellations likely around the county. Surprisingly the game started on time and for once the tossing expert Evans came unstuck by the Grappers skipper Roylance. The call was heads and it came down a tails, however Evans was seemed remonstrating as the coin used wasn't English. Regardless of this Grappenhall decided to have a bowl on a wicket that has slightly damp and green, very green. Probably not looking out of place on Super Sunday.

With Widnes Missing two of their most experienced players James 'Wiggum' McCoy and Shab ' Charlton' Bashir. The scintillating opening pair of Moore and Kirby took to the wicket for the visitors and in usual fashion got the chemists off to the ferocious start they where looking for. Amateur Pro MMA starlet Kirby smashing 4 from just 24 balls with some unbelievable ball striking. Kirby will be missing for 3 weeks now with him going to America to partake in some MMA bouts, one of which will be shown on Dana whites contender series (good luck mert!!). The fighter and the golden child fortunately fell early after their breathtaking start. This left a lot of pressure on Campbell at 3 and also Mikey 'Crab' Byrne (returning to the side) in a lot of pressure. however the pair batted beautifully and took the Grappenhall attack apart, they had no answers for it. Widnes moved on to 108 before Byrne departed. This left Campbell at the crease after just passing his half century.

Johnathan's father former Zimbabwe international Alistair arrived at the ground at this moment, John caught a glimpse and decided his work wasn't done if anything accelerating towards his maiden widnes century. Johno assisted Majid and Hewitt moved the score close to 180 leaving Widnes in a commanding position on a pitch which seemed to be getting easier to bat on. Campbell reached his 3 figures and the travelling Widnes players and spectators erupted!!! Great work!!!! (Video Below).

Campbell departed soon after having deciding it was time to go all out to reach the final batting point. Qamar ' yak' Hafiz entered the game and wasted no time at all scoring a rapid 24. Widnes Finished their innings on 235 - 8. The Grappenhall bowlers won't be happy having contained for long periods the two part time spin combination although taking wickets was far too easy to score off.

It was time for tea and well, what can we say. the spread was great a special thanks to the teaman at Grappenhall. although Julie's chicken wings are still the best in the league.

Widnes walked out to bowl with the wind getting increasingly intense. Starman Aaron Soni got the new nut, fresh off the news of his North England call up!! Congratulations Aaron on your hard work mate!!

Back to the Game - Soni has the ball and managed to get the breakthrough early, the dangerous Roylance departed second ball having not troubled the scorers, probably wanting to get out of the wind and back to the brilliant pasta bake. Albert Pennington was next to go, again Aaron Soni the bowler clean bowling him with another great nut. Adam Green came the crease and looked to follow in the path of widnes number 3. scoring quickly for his 37. Grappenhall looked more up for the fight than they initially looked started to dig in. Soni created another breakthrough finding the edge of Rowlands' bat, however the umpire didn't flinch to everyones disbelief, it has to be said the ball did nearly land at the feet of backward point so it wasn't a thin one.

Wickets continued to fall and the travelling ultras from the second team got louder and louder. Breakthroughs came regularly and the chemists wrapped the game up with a few overs to spare with some fine bowling fielding. noticeably the catch again from campbell to seal the victory.

25, 25 up the chemists!!!! was the song in the changing rooms led by the travelling second team, another much needed win for the lads, who can now maybe start to think about catching some of the teams above them in the table.
