On Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued with Round 25 being played.
The Goldmine at home to the Cricketers Arms secured the 2nd division title with a comprehensive display of darts. They surged ahead, taking the first six games through, Karl Windisch (11 darts), Peter Mullally (17 darts) and Ray O’Connor in the singles, followed by pairs, Karl Windisch & Anton Conroy (15 darts), Sean Bell & Ray O’Connor (15 darts) and James Holden & Peter Mullally. The Cricketers Arms took the next game through Brian Dwyer, but they were in an untenable position as the Goldmine added the next two games through, Anton Conroy (18 darts) and John Taylor to well and truly take the match.
The Ball at home to Widnes Bowling Club A conceded the first two games to the Bowler’s Tommy Robertson and Alan Clark. The Ball then struck back, taking three in a row through, Martin Ball and pairs, Martin Ball & Karl Whitfield and James Holden & John Barber. The Bowler then levelled with a win from Joe Batty & Scott Grady, then went ahead through, Joe Batty. Parity was restored as the Ball’s Ste Whitfield (13 darts) made it four all. The outcome was resolved as Karl Whitfield took the final game and the match for the Ball.
Widnes Bowling Club B at home to Widnes Cricket Club saw Kev Baxter take the first game for the Cricket Club. The Bowler then levelled through Dave Cowan, only to see the Cricket Club take the lead again, with a win from Rob Morris. All was soon level again as the Bowler’s opening pair Jimmy Scofield & Alan Pennington took the next game. The Bowler then went ahead as a further win came from Dave Cowan & Dave Pickles. Rob Morris & Kev Baxter levelled the score, before a further win from Ben Hewitt, tool the Cricketers ahead. The Bowler though, were quick off the mark as Mike Ruane made it four all in the penultimate game, then team mate Alan Moran capitalised on it by taking the final game and the match for Widnes Bowling Club B.
Hough Green at home to the Millfield conceded the first two games to the Millfield’s Ian Wall (14 darts) and Darren Attwood. Hough Green then took the next game through Dave Jackson. The Millfield were hot on their tails as their opening pair, Chris Taylor & Dave Jones took the next game. Andy McIntosh & Russ Hardman gave Hough Green a second point, but the Millfield were on a roll as Billy Fox & Ian Wall, Chris Taylor, Billy Fox and Dave Jones took the remaining four games and the match for the Millfield.
The Mersey Hotel at home to the Mill Brow SC took the opening two games through, Danny Davidson and Rob Cotty. The Brow’s Chris Bright (18 darts) then took the next game. The Mersey edged ahead through their opening pair, Rob Cotty & Paul Cotty, but the Brow were close behind as they narrowed the gap with a win from Paul Linger & Mark Harrison. However, the Mersey were on a roll as two in a row from Danny Davidson & Jay Davidson and Sharon Unsworth took the Mersey over the finish line, with two games still to play. The Brow’s Paul Woodward and Paul Linger (15 darts) took the final games, but not the match.
Simms Cross Institute at home to Halton Stadium saw the Stadium’s Alan Magee and John Kilkenny (14 darts) take the first two games. The Stute hit back with two of their own through, Andy Abbott & opening pair, Andy Abbott & Paul Batty. The Stadium’s Alan Magee & Tony Jackson and Neil Ward & John Kilkenny gave the Stadium a healthy lead, but the Stute’s Glyn Owen narrowed it slightly. However a win from Neil Ward, followed by a further win from Tony Jackson sealed the Stute’s fate, giving Halton Stadium the match.
Friday the 17th May is an open fixture date for WCC which will see our players turn up for a practice at home.
