Great team performance lead by the bowlers on Saturday

Widnes arrived to the ground on Saturday hoping to build on the previous weeks victory over Neston. Marple the visitors to Beaconsfield Road, who started the day just ahead of the chemists in the table.

With a lot of rain earlier in the week and the ground underwater on Thursday the decision was made to leave some grass on the wicket to stop the pitch breaking up later in the day, which could play in to the hands of Marple's veteran spin attack.

Evans went in to the game with an unchanged side full of confidence off the back of last weeks efforts and was aided by another top class bit of tossing, Marple called tails and it landed a heads. spell binding stuff by the widnes skipper.

Widnes backed themselves to restrict and chase, however Evans admitted afterwards he didn't expect to be chasing so little. Marple were bowled out for 66. in 28.1 overs. Thanks to spells from M(oby) Parkinson 4-32, Starman Aaron Soni 3-17 and the Yak himself Qamar Hafiz 3-13. All bowlers were superbly accurate on a wicket which offered some movement for the bowlers. Marple would have been disappointed to post such a low total on an all round decent cricket wicket. Some notable pieces of fielding have to be mentioned James McCoy taking an outstanding pluck at Mid on showing the reaction time of a fighter pilot moving in to position, dismissing the set batsmen L brown who battled hard for his 0. The other goes out to Widnes CC's very own hard man, C Kirby the former countdown contestant and now amateur MMA star who is also big in to tattoos and protein eating. Kirby served several aces on Saturday with some in attendance thinking he'd mistaken the cricket field for a game at the widnes tennis centre. That being said Kirbs was electric behind the stumps which left everyone in shock as he hadn't looked like much more than a traffic cone all summer.

Widnes went out to bat needing only 67 for victory off a challenging 77 overs. Evans knew they needed a quick start and sent for Widnes hardman Kirby to open the batting with James '5 Vollies' Mccoy, who is starting to show signs of his best form. Kirby was caught behind early and that meant widnes could get on with it. Super 'V100' Shab and Mccoy knocked off the total in 14 overs and it led the chemists to the bar early. It topped off a great weekend for the Widnes Club as both teams secured 25 points, meaning a 50 point weekend and both clubs moving in the right direction in their respective leagues.
